Fifteen-year-old Mia Thermopolis, the witty, lovable star of Meg Cabot's The Princess Diaries, has had it with princess lessons, also known as torture sessions: "Do they really think anyone in Genovia cares whether I know how to use a fish fork? Or if I can sit down without getting wrinkles in the back of my skirt? Or if I know how to say 'thank you' in Swahili? Shouldn't my future countrymen be more concerned with my views on the environment? And gun control? And overpopulation?" To make matters worse, she's getting these lessons from Grandmère, a rather judgmental woman who dresses her pet in chinchilla bolero jackets and has eyeliner permanently tattooed on her eyelids. Princess in the Spotlight further records Mia's path to princessdom: her artist mother's relationship with her algebra teacher (how awkward), her forced television interview, broadcast to all of America (how humiliating), and her crush on her best friend Lilly's brother Michael (how excruciating). The result is another thoroughly entertaining diary of a very human, very self-deprecating, very unprincesslike princess. (Ages 12 and older) --Karin Snelson

Book Description

No one ever said being a princess was easy.

Just when Mia thought she had the whole Princess thing under control, things get out of hand, fast. First there's an unexpected announcement from her mother. Then GrandmÈre arranges a national primetime interview for the brand-new crown princess of Genovia. On top of that, intriguing, exasperating letters from a secret admirer begin to arrive.

Before she even has the chance to wonder who those letters are from, Mia is swept up in a whirlwind of royal intrigue the likes of which hasn't been seen since volume I of The Princess Diaries.

5Hilarious!, Aug 7, 2023
I'm not going to make this long. Just let me tell you that these books are positively hilarious. Mia's thoughts are just like other teens' thoughts. I don't know how Meg Cabot does it.

5Princess Mia is back to make us laugh our butts off..., Aug 2, 2023
This book starts off almost immediately where the last one left us wanting more. There is only so much that a teenager can take, and if finding out that you were actually the heir to the throne of Genovia wasn't enough, or your mother dating your algebra teacher, or a grandmother who would put Satan to shame, then finding out that your mother is pregnant by said teacher will certainly land you in the loony bin. Plus, Mia is being courted by a secret admirer via email whom she thinks is her best friend Lilly's brother Michael who she has had a crush on for a looong time.

So continues the hilarious series that I just discovered and can't seem to get enough of. I love how Meg Cabot makes me feel like I'm reading all the notes that my friends wrote me in middle school, and of course the cat that eats socks and, according to her grandmother from hell, will steal your soul if he jumps on your chest. Such a great series that I'm glad I picked up today at the library. I've read the first two already today and I'm getting ready to read the third installment. I found out that Patricia Cabot, an historical romance writer, writes these great books, and I went and checked them out. I recommend this to everyone, even a romance reader like myself. Great fun!

5Teen Girls will Love it !!!!!!, May 9, 2023
Fifteen year-old Mia Thermopolis is no ordinary high school girl.About 3 months ago her father told her that she was the princess of the small country of Genovia. She finds out very quickly that it isn't so easy being a princess , and to add to all the pressure . She starts receiving letters from a secret admirer . Then her mother breaks a shocking bit of news to her , that will change her life forever . Don't miss this exciting whirl wind of fun . Teen girls will love it ! If you like this book you will love the other 3 books in the Princess Diaries series . I gave this book 5 stars because it was so entertaining and fun to read!!!!!

5Princess in the Spotlight, Apr 17, 2023
This review is on Princess in the Spotlight, by Meg Cabot. The story is about Mia Thermopolis. Mia doesn't have an average girl's life. She is the princess of Genovia and has to take princess lessons from her Grandmere. If that wasn't enough, her mom has just found out that she is pregnant. Still if that wasn't enough, the person she is pregnant with is Mia's algebra teacher, Mr. Gianini. (Mia's mom is planning on getting married to him). Also her Grandmere decided she was going to surprise Mia by putting her on an interview. Mia was very unhappy about that. While only a few days from the interview Mia gets a bad cold. While she's home from school she gets a love letter, but not signed by anyone. Who will it be?
The characters in the book are: Mia, Mia's mother, Mia's Grandmere, Mia's dad, Mia's stepfather, her best friend, Lilly, and her cousin, Hank.
I recommend this book to preteens and teenagers, grades 6 and up, because it has some material that younger kids might not understand.
I love this book because it has so many great parts to it. It's a book I never wanted to put down because it had so many unexpected things in it, which is great. Out of 5 stars I give this book a 5!

5Princess in the Spotlight is hilarious, and unpredictable!, Apr 3, 2023
No one ever said being a princess was easy. Well, in Princess in the Spotlight, Princess Mia faces more duties in being a princess. Her mom gets pregnant and gets married, Mia gets interviewed with almost her whole school watching it, and last but not least, an anonymous admirer letter. Continue the story by reading the book.
