Editorial Reviews:
Junie B. Jones is thrilled. "The whole entire first grade" is planning a kickball tournament, and this feisty first grader daydreams about being the star of Room One. Unfortunately, where Junie B. goes, trouble must follow. "And it’s called, I accidentally kicked my ball over the fence. And I didn’t want to go get it. So I had to find something else to kick." That something else turns out to be her mom’s watering can--which happens to be full at the time. Now Junie B. has an owie on her piggy toe and it looks like she won't be able to participate in the tournament. But wait! Her friend Sheldon can't play kickball either, due to a spectacular fall in the classroom. Maybe these two can come up with an alternate plan that will still allow Junie B. to be the star!

Barbara Park’s inexhaustible beginning chapter-book series has all the ingredients young readers like best: humor, repetition, predictability (with a few surprises), and lots of silly action. Grown-up readers might tire of the cute malapropisms, but kids will thrive on the "whole entire" series. (Ages 5 to 8) --Emilie Coulter

2One-Man Band, huh? More of a One-Man WORLD......, Jan 5, 2023
.....and there's a reason I say this. I'll tell you in a minute. This book starts out about young Junie B., First Grader "kicking the cow" (watering can) and hurting her toe. Junie's teacher Mr. Scary tells her that she won't be able to play in the Kickball Tournament on Friday. Junie B. says she's been practing after school, and her ball flew over the fence, and so she had to find something else to kick (Mom's new watering can). Junie B. is devestated. She claims she had a daydream about it: "...everyone else in her class had broken legs, and Junie B. was the only O.K. one. Then, she wins the whole tournament without any help! She was the Star of Room One..." Mr. Scary tells Junie that she can do a half-time show with her friend, Sheldon. But Junie still demands to play in the tournament. Junie B. gets the idea to juggle durning the show, and her and her father practice together.

Now, back to my One-Man World: Junie B. wants to be the center of attention. She wants no one else to have the limelight. And, this whole stupid toe deal wouldn't have even HAPPENED if she just quit being lazy and got her ball from over the fence! She said she didn't feel like it! If I was her, I'd just call my mom and ask her to get it for me if I couldn't go alone.

I don't like any of the First Grade so-called "adventures". I suggest Magic TreeHouse, Cam Jansen, Animal Ark, and Nancy Drew Notebooks. Can you BELIEVE Junie B. books go on the top-sellers list?!?!??

1ATTENTION PARENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!! READ THIS REVIEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!, Dec 31, 2022
I am a 12-year-old seventh-grader, and I believe that this is the worst book grammer-wise and story-wise! This book is about a 6-year-old girl named Junie B. Jones. She is excited about a first grade "KickBall Tournament". Suddenly, she injures her kicking toe and cannot play in the game. Sounds like a good topic to you? Think again! Here are my reasons for saying this:

1: Junie B. dreams of being the star of the show "In my dream, I was the only one in Room 1 who could kick the ball. That's because all the other children in Room 1 had broken legs. On account of addidents happen, sometimes. And so I played in the tournament all by myself. And I won the whole darned thing without any help! I was the star of Room 1! All my friends shouted and cheered. Then they hugged me very happy. And they threw confetti on my head..." This is copied from "One-Man Band."

2: Junie B. DEMANDS to participate in the tournament, even though she can't. And she says the word "hate" a lot (check out pages 41-42!!!) SOME OF JUNIE'S FAVORITE WORDS: runned, swinged, thinked, springed, hanged, singed, lighted... I know a three-year-old who talks better than Junie B.! **all the books are like this!

3: Junie B. ends up recieving a part in a halftime show with her pal, Sheldon. Junie claims she can juggle, though she can't. And is demanding to her teacher she MUST play or Room 1 will lose.

4: Junie fakes an injury on the day of the tournament, saying she broke a leg (she's afriad she won't be able to juggle)

5: Junie B. says that Room 1 will "kick Room 2's butts"

So, parents, I will say it again: Junie B. the Brat! She's demanding, whining, calls herslef a star, is a sore loser, and talks awfully. She also talks back to both of her parents, isn't punished, and knows it. Parents, YOU pick up this series and read it before your children do!!!

4Junie B., First Grader One-Man Band, Jun 30, 2023
Barbara Park's Junie B. Jones books have been well loved by children for years. Her new series has Junie B. in first grade. Now fifth in her series is Junie B., First Grader One-Man Band.
We find Junie B. back in room one with the teacher Mr. Scary. The class has a kick ball tournament and she dreams of becoming the star player until she injures her piggie toe during practice.
She is devastated but her parents teach her that life has disappointments and she can turn lemons into lemonaid.
I give the book a four star rating. My daughters and I enjoyed it. Barbara Park's characters are realistic and the stories are an easy read and a lot of fun.
