Description:
In this corner... it's the Diaper Champ. Standing a bit taller than the competition, this wondrous contraption actually uses regular garbage bags, making it super economical (no refills, hooray!). It also holds a few more diapers than other pails we've tried. To use it, simply drop a diaper in and flip the handle. To empty it, just unlock it and remove the bag. But the true test of a diaper pail is its smell control, right? Overall, most moms thought that the Champ deserved its title, and only a few detected an occasional escaped odor or two. It is a bit difficult to open (hint: take it slow), but for those of you with a curious and experimental toddler in your house, this may be okay. --Melissa Wilson

4  Overall, the best option
As I read the reviews from other users, I kept seeing the same comment: odors seep. Well, ladies & gentlemen, if what you're looking for is an odorless diaper pail then don't put any diapers in it! The nature of the beast tells you that you WILL have some odor.
However, I do want to add that for about 14 months our Diaper Champ worked wonderfully. I have a very sensitive nose and could not detect any smells. After about 14 months, I did start to notice a slight odor. I sprayed and disinfected but I could still get a slight odor after a day or two. My husband took it outside to take it apart and REALLY wash it and air it out. That's when he discovered that the seal that keeps the odors in was starting to break down from so much use.
I'm on my way to buy another Diaper Champ to replace the one that we wore out!!
I think that overall, the Diaper Champ beats the others hands down! For the price and convenience, you can't beat it.
2  Great design but, STINKY!!!!!!!!
Currently, my daughter is 15 months old. Originally, we had a Diaper Genie. My sister-in-law had mentioned that she was very happy with the Diaper Champ. So, I went out and bought the Diaper Champ because I no longer wanted to be a slave to specialized diaper refills. It worked really well for about one month. Ever since my daugter has started eating table food (the real stuff not the baby jar food) the Diaper Champ has failed at containing the dirty diaper odors. I could live with a slight odor (after all it is a diaper pail), but not a blowout stinkfest. Also, it is a challenge to remove the lingering odor from the Diaper Champ after every bag change.

It is a great design, except it does need a way to keep wayward toddlers from dumping toys into the pail. I love the idea of using garbage bags instead of constantly buying refills. I give it a rating of 2 stars because it fails to do the most important job of a diaper pail (in my opinion), keep the the odor contained. I'm going to try to put the diapers in a ziploc to see if that solves my problem.

5  Excellent purchase!
I was trying to decide between this and the Diaper Genie, but so many of my friends had told me that they had stopped using the Diaper Genie after a few weeks b/c it was such a pain to empty AND you have to buy refills for it.

I knew I'd never buy the refills much less want to deal with a hassle emptying diapers, so I got the Diaper Champ.

I couldn't be happier.

- No smell (except of course when you empty it)
- Takes regular trash bags, which is VERY convenient!
- Very easy to empty

I wouldn't fall for the Diaper Genie. Diaper Champ is great, especially for the money!
