The land is 67 acres. The land is located on Zena Road in West Hurley. NY (Mapquest map). It is entirely wooded with mostly immature (less than 30 year old) trees. The site used to be a bluestone quarry, but most of the stone proved to be un-economical and was never mined. The land is mostly flat with some large boulders, some bluestone rock piles and a number of bluestone fences. In the back of the land there is a 20 foot high dropoff.
The land adjoins New York State (Onteora State Park) and Town of Woodstock land in the back. One side adjoins Town of Woodstock land, the other side adjoins private property. The entire front of the land is along Zena Road. Most of the front is in West Hurley. The bulk of the land (65+ acres) is in Woodstock.
In the 1970's the land was purchased by developers with the intention of subdividing and building 25 houses. The development never occurred and the land has been unused since that time.
There are a number of old, dirt roads running through the property. These roads are left from the time the land was being used as a quarry.
The picture below shows one of the possible building sites. The land is fairly even and the trees are all fairly immature. This location is approximately 400' from Zena Road in the northern third of the property.
The picture below shows the only standing water (actually ice - it was cold out) on the site. We have had a very dry summer here, so it is hard to say exactly how much water will collect here in a normal year. If we decide that we want a pond on the property, we would expand this wet area and have it here. This area is just behind the Possible Building Site shown above.
This picture shows the potential pond from the back of the potential building site.
Below are just some random pictures of the land.
